Our Story

A Brief Overview

The history of Coast Christian Fellowship extends back to 1923 when Elton Hill founded the Full Gospel Assembly of Inglewood. The church went through a series of transitions, which eventually brought the community to Torrance, CA where Wilbur Wacker became the Senior Pastor in 1975. The name was also changed to Calvary Church of the Coastlands. For many years the church thrived and in 1978 established Coast Christian School. Coast Christian School, now called Valor Christian Academy, continues to be a premiere Christian school in the South Bay to this day. (As of 2012, Valor Christian Academy is no longer affiliated with Coast Christian Fellowship.)

Meanwhile in 2000, Guy Takashima left his Associate Pastor position at Hope Chapel Hermosa Beach after 10 year of service to establish a new church plant in the area. Two years later, seeking to unite different churches in the area, they merged with Torrance Christian Fellowship with Guy Takashima as their Senior Pastor.

The following year, Torrance Christian Fellowship joined Calvary Church of the Coastlands to become Coast Christian Fellowship. After decades of faithful service, Pastor Wilbur Wacker retired from full-time ministry and passed the Senior Pastor position to Guy Takashima.

The transitions and merges within the church have established a rich history while also connecting several generations, cultures and denominations in the process with the hope of creating a multifaceted church family equipped to serve the surrounding communities.

Currently, Senior Pastor Guy Takashima is seeking to create a Kingdom-based culture fueled by the Holy Spirit that is expressed in personal and corporate revival that results in community transformation. Inspired by his visit to the Argentinean Revival and his desire to see the next generation return to God, Guy Takashima has set his ministerial focus on the city of Torrance and its youth.

In 2008, the I.D.K. service was also initiated to establish collaboration and connection with regional and international ministries to further the Kingdom and fulfillment of the Great Commission. It meets the first Sunday of the month at 6:30pm.
