A Brief Overview

The history of Coast Christian Fellowship extends back to 1923 when Elton Hill founded the Full Gospel Assembly of Inglewood. The church¬† went through a series of transitions, which eventually brought the community to Torrance, CA where Wilbur Wacker became the Senior Pastor in 1975. The name was also changed to Calvary Church of the Coastlands. For many years the church thrived and in 1978 established Coast Christian School, which continues to be a premiere Christian school in the South Bay to this day. (It is now operating under the name “Valor Christian Academy.”)

Meanwhile in 2000, Guy Takashima left his Associate Pastor position at Hope Chapel Hermosa Beach after 10 year of service to establish a new church plant in the area. Two years later, seeking to unite different churches in the area, they merged with Torrance Christian Fellowship with Guy Takashima as their Senior Pastor.

The following year, Torrance Christian Fellowship joined Calvary Church of the Coastlands to become Coast Christian Fellowship. After decades of faithful service, Pastor Wilbur Wacker retired from full-time ministry and passed the Senior Pastor position to Guy Takashima.

The transitions and merges within the church have established a rich history while also connecting several generations, cultures and denominations in the process with the hope of creating a multifaceted church family equipped to serve the surrounding communities.

In 2008, Coast made a huge decision to follow Holy Spirit despite the cost and as a community they began seeking the manifest Presence of God with the evidence of signs, wonders and heart transformation that leads to personal and family revival. This opened up doors for Coast to become part of Bethel’s Global Legacy Network of churches and also Harvest International Ministries Apostolic network.

In 2017, after much prayer and guidance Pastor Guy Takashima stepped down from 25 years of ministry to enter into the marketplace. Pastor Joe Gil was elected as Coast’s new senior pastor and commissioned on Pentecost Sunday, June 4th, 2017.

Pastor Joe’s heart has always been to strengthen families and to reach the greater Los Angeles region as well as the nations of the Earth. He is passionate about equipping the Body of Christ in hearing the voice of God, being transformed by the ministry of the Spirit found in Isaiah 61 and being empowered to bring transformation to every sphere of influence.
